Worship and Fellowship

Worship

Worship is at the heart of our congregation's life, and services are held on Sundays at 11am and 6pm;  you will be most welcome at the services (you may sit in any pew).  The words of hymns and songs are displayed digitally on large screens at the front of the church, although hymn-books are still also available.     There is also a weekly bulletin with news and announcements of various activities and events.

The sermons are Bible-based, and people are encouraged to use their own Bible; the New International Version is the one used from the pulpit, and a few copies are available in the vestibule for the use of those who do not possess their own copy.

A Midweek Service for praise, prayer and Bible-reading is held on Wednesdays from 7.45 - 9pm at the Church Hall in Market Street. There are also occasional other gatherings, including missionary meetings.

Special family services include a Flower Service in June, Harvest Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. Other special services include the Fishmarket service on a summer Sunday evening, Remembrance Day parade and a Good Friday Communion Service.

An induction loop system has been installed for people with impaired hearing, and the 'T' position on a hearing aid should ensure a clear signal.

Toilets are situated in the west extension, with one being specially adapted for disabled people.

Car parking is kindly permitted in the grounds of the Seaway Net Company.

Sacraments

The Sacrament of Communion is observed on the last Sundays of April and October, as well as occasionaly after evening worship.

Baptisms are normally conducted during morning worship by previous arrangement with the Minister. In the case of Infant Baptism, at least one of the parents must be a full member of the Church.

Church Membership

A Membership Class is held each year in preparation for the Admission Service in April. The class covers the basics of Christian faith and discipleship, and meets in November, February, march and April, usually after morning service. There is no set age for joining, although people do not usually join before 16, and nowadays there are often older people in the class. People may attend the class and then decide whether they feel ready to take their vows.

People who are already members of other congregations and have moved here will be welcome to join by Transference Certificate ("lines"), which can be obtained from the minister, Session Clerk or Roll-Keeper of their former Congregation.

Tape Ministry

Recordings are made of most services, and cassettes may be borrowed. Members sometimes visit housebound members with taped services and requests for such visits are welcome. For further information, contact Anne Thomson (01261 815049).

For People with a Handicap

  • There are no steps in to the Church building, and wheelchair access is relatively easy.
  • One of the toilets in the west extension is specially adapted for wheelchair access.
  • An induction loop system has been installed for people with impaired hearing; the "T" position on a hearing aid should ensure a clear signal.
  • Audio-tapes are made of most services, and copies may be borrowed.
  • Large-print copies of the weekly service sheet are available if requested in advance.
